How are you beYOUtiful PEOPLE? I am excited!
Sewing is one of the thousand things I CAN’T do and fabrics is one of the things that I love. So today I am going to show you a fabric project that you can do without a stitch! Here is my decoupaged suitcase, Miss Lola…Is she sassy or what?
.
.
This is pretty much what happened…
I decided to exchange the sewing machine for Mod Podge, the thread for spray paint, the needles for a brush and the patterns for an old suitcase…

This project is all about the places you’ll go even if it is just in your dreams… make it cool, make it happy, make it beYOUtiful and YOUnique.
.

I started with these materials…
Spray paint, tape and an old AWESOME hard shell suitcase that I found at my local Thrift Store for $4.00

.
I taped the areas I did not want to be painted…. Every bit of silver was taped.
Is this a pain? You may ask.
Heck yeah! But it is a LOT faster and easier than labor, or a diet, or ironing…
So don’t complain girl and start taping!

Let’s have some fun with the spray paint…
Shut UP! Do you know I won six cans of color GREATNESS from KRYLON at the CSI Project Party?!
They are coming my way next week… ! I can’t wait!

OK I better focus!

You don’t need to spray the entire suitcase since you are going to cover it with fabric.
Just make sure you cover all the areas that will be exposed…
Looks so good already!

Let it dry!
Go eat something… come check my blog… call your husband… make dinner…
but wait until it dries.
When it is dry it is time to unfold the beauty… Take the tape off.

Place the fabric on top of one side of the suitcase and cut the amount needed to cover the area.
Leave 1 inch of extra fabric around it so it is easy to pull and work with…
Do the same thing for the other side.

Get the brush and Mod Podge OUT…
Mess, here we come!
.
.
This step is SO important.
Paint the areas where you are going to put the fabric with Mod-Podge.
BE GENEROUS and pay attention to the corners and edges.

Place the FABRIC, add more Mod Podge on top of it. With the help of a dull knife or your nails press against the edges so it really sticks to the suitcase. Use your hand to smooth the fabric.
.
Pull and press YOU DON’T WANT BUBBLES of air between the suitcase and the fabric.

Thank you for this info. I plan on covering 3 old suite cases and stacking them to use as an end table. I called Krylon’s info number ans was told they did not have a product that would cover vinyl and their FUSION for plastics would not work either. I’ll try your method. I bought a lite weight upholstery fabric and wonder if I should use spray adhesive or Mod Podge. Any suggestions? Thanks again for giving me confidence in this project.
…and thank you for sharing!!!
I truly like your attitude!!! You seem to be a very kindhearted woman!!! I wish you could be cloned!!! Hihi!! Take care!!
Oh Sara!
Thank you so much for your sweet comment… Have a wonderful weekend my love!
Love this! Sheila
Thank YOU!
I linked to your post in a post on ideas for adding fabric to furniture! Obviously, this isn’t furniture but I encouraged readers to think outside the box! (adding legs to this little baby coulod make the cutest end table! http://dearemmeline.blogspot.com/2012/08/wednesdays-want-this-look-style-file.html
I have some of these that are already red! whoooohooooo….
You lucky!I had to spray paint mine.
I am addicted to old suitcases and have collected them for a while. I was recently walkling past a garage sale in my neighborhood and came across a small American Tourister suitcase for a buck. I commented to my husband about not having any money when a voice behind me said ‘take it! That’s one less thing for me to pack!’ I’ve been on a decluttering binge and twice tried to get rid of that case but just couldn’t! Now I couldn’t be happier! I’m going to cover it in fabric and have the spiffiest bag in my neighborhood!!
You are going to love it! Have fun making it your own 🙂
p.s. I’m kicking myself for not picking up 2 of these suitcases at an auction. Oh the potential!
Jessica,
Next time don’t let them go 😉
Have a wonderful week!
Love this fabric! Reminds me of oilcloth. If you don’t mind sharing what is it called? I’d love to see the line.
NOVE (NINE) CHE MERAVIGLIAAAAAA!!! (WHAT A AWESOME PROJECT!!!!). tHANKS FOR SHARING. ELI
