Weeks ago my street had its annual neighborhood yard sale…
I LOVE the ladies across the street from me.
They are a group of four DIVALICIOUS best friends
that get together every year and gather their treasures for the yard sale at the house of one of them… which happens to be my SWEET neighbor.
That day I purchased a bunch of vintage jewelry from them,
the little end table that is now in my room and the two small silver doves.
the little end table that is now in my room and the two small silver doves.
BUT my heart STOPPED when I saw this little guy.
…It was instant love 😉
…What is up with me and the $10 desks?
It took me some time to decide what I wanted to do with it…
I have to tell you that this poor desk was dirty…
As beat up as it looked one of the things that I adored about it
was the three color dimension going on there.
was the three color dimension going on there.
The original wood… the sage green color and the final ivory…. {The History Behind the Desk}
The sweet lady that owned it told me that she had bought it from a yard sale over 30 years ago
when her son was just a kid…
How cool is that?!
when her son was just a kid…
How cool is that?!
The desk was green when she bought it and that she was the one that painted it in ivory…
Then she added that the desk had been in her shed
since her son moved out over a decade ago…
since her son moved out over a decade ago…
So to leave some of the desk journey in it
I decided to sand all of the chipping paint and leave any old solid paint on it..
I decided to sand all of the chipping paint and leave any old solid paint on it..
This is how it looked after sanding…
At this point I new what color I wanted it to be…
So I carefully painted in red the wood areas
leaving as much as the white and the green unpainted as I could…
leaving as much as the white and the green unpainted as I could…
The last step was to sand again the over-lapping paint
letting the green and the white original paint reappear…
letting the green and the white original paint reappear…
In some other areas I actually scraped the pain off with a knife…
…So, here it is my precious desk.
I normally end saying from ordinary… to EXTRAORDINARY!
…Well, today I don’t think I can say such thing.
This desk was an EXTRAORDINARY one from the very beginning,
it just needed some tender love 😉

Love it! I've started asking the story behind the pieces I buy at garage sales now. There are so many great ones out there and it makes me fall even more in love with the items. You can't go wrong with red. I adore this makeover!

Great find! At yard sales like that I find it hard not to look too excited and so bump the price up! Down here in Australia we call them 'garage sales'. Different name. Same great finds.
