Hi! I’m so happy you stopped by today! I want to show you a gift idea and new free printable that I made for my little girl. As much as I love this handmade gift idea today’s post is all about us… I mean YOU, me, each of us and the right we have to embrace our perfect imperfections. Today’s post is a proposition to like and love who we are today as we strive to become even a better version of OURSELVES tomorrow!
I love people. I love meeting new friends wherever I go. I love to hear other people’s stories and learn from their experiences. I find myself often inspired by all types of people. I have noticed however that in most cases when I tell them how they have touched my life or how they have inspired me I get two reactions.
- The first one is total surprise, most of these wonderful people even show a minor case of shock! They smile at me, their eyes light up as they perhaps realize and discover for the very first time that they are simply unique, amazing, a source of light and inspiration. I will never get used to see that moment when a wave of realization comes over them.
- The other reaction that I often see is denial. These people don’t even have to put an effort in replacing whatever complement I’m giving them with flaws. It’s like they have an automatic sensor that replaces a positive compliment with a negative comeback.
Complement: You are so beautiful.
Responds: You are saying this because you haven’t seen my sisters… I’m the ugly one; they are gorgeous!
Complement: I love your outfit.
Responds: If only my butt was smaller then it would look for sure a lot better.
Complement: You are so kind and thoughtful.
Responds: Trust me I’m not. I’m just having a good day. Normally you will find me barking orders and yelling at my kids.
Complement: You are so smart.
Responds: Not really… I’m actually awful at everything else, seriously I’m not that clever.
I think way too often we think really little of ourselves. We have the tendency to compare our worst to someone else’s best. Sometimes we dislike ourselves enough to see the infinite potential that there is inside of each of us when the truth is that we’ve been created in the image of a God… For goodness sake, that alone is mind blowing and the coolest thing ever! Seriously, think about it… We are masterpieces created by a perfect Father!
The truth is that there is nothing ordinary about YOU, there is nothing ordinary about me, there is nothing ordinary about anyone. We are all unique and beautiful in our own individual way!
As a mother I want my kids to know that they are priceless. In a world surrounded by edited perfection I want them to know that they are imperfectly perfect. I want my kids to know that they inspire me. I want them to be aware of their light so they can humbly share it and brighten up someone else that perhaps is living in darkness. I want them to be able to recognize true beauty. I want them to know that the size of their hearts is far more important than the size of their pants. In a world where social media focuses so much in “likes” and “followers” I want them to like who they are and to follow their heart.
Inspired by all of this crazy talk I got “I Like Myself!” by Karen Beaumont for my little Mimi.
This is one of my all time favorite books. Every kid and adult should own a copy!
You can find it HERE
I made a little gift tag and page marker for her as well!
Feel free to use our printable if you want to do something similar!
Cut the printable and use a hole punch to make a hole on the top right corner of the gift tag.
Thread yarn, bakers twine, or ribbon through the hole and place the tag where you want it!
Tie the yarn for the finishing touch and place the little circle page marker between two pages!
I put her book on top of her bed and she found it there when she came back from her first day of school.
So cute! She loved it!
When you are ready feel free to download the printable!
