Last week I got in the mail some love from my friends over at DecoArt.
It’s not a secret that I love their products and their affordable quality paints.
I have used their paints time after time, from painting pillows,
to my Halloween Chalkboard Platters, to my kitchen mugs, and I have never been disappointed.
I wanted to try their new line of Gloss Enamels for my first Halloween project of this year.
I am so excited to share with you all my new Halloween Stands
while showing you how easy it is to paint glass and ceramics.
The level of difficulty of this project is minimum.
This would be a prefect first project if you feel intimidated stenciling or doing free hand painting.
MATERIALS
All you need is a set of Glass Stencil Daubers.
Your choice of Americana Crystal Gloss Enamels.
{ You can find all of the Gloss Enamels at Michaels over in the section with the vases and such }
Your dishes or whatever glass or ceramic you choose to paint.
Optional: If you don’t feel confortable doing a free hand stenciling you can purchase
one of the many Americana Gloss Enamels Stick on Stencils.
TUTORIAL
To prepare the surface clean the glass with alcohol.
After apply the paint pressing your dauber into the dish gently to make the polka dots.
You can practice first on a foam or paper plate to get to know the consistency of the paint and the amount you need to apply.
I ended up using the Crystal Gloss Enamels paint on purple and white, for the orange I used the Crystal Gloss Enamels Glitter.
I used different sizes of the daubers to make different sizes of polka dots.
So easy and simple to make.
Keep in mind that the paint needs to dry for 4 days and bake for 30 minutes at 275F.
Make sure to read all the instructions on the back of your paint.
After the paint is dried and baked it will be dishwasher safe!
Eek!
The little EXTRA… Making candy dish stands.
I thought it would be so much fun to make a candy dish with these plates.
I found at my local store these candle holders that I painted in white.
They were heavy and sturdy perfect to hold the plates.
Then I just set each plate and the bowl on top.
You can even hot glued them together if you want.
The point is to make your dishes or any glass or ceramic surface your own.
Here is another idea for you.
Months ago as part of our kitchen makeover I made a set of 1 to 6 numbered soup mugs for our kitchen
using as well DecoArt Americana Gloss Enamel paint.

I hope you guys have fun while making your own creations.

Love this! I have some items saved for this very idea.
Can you tell me if this same process would work for me. I have a ceramic nativity cookie jar received as a gift. The top has a cloud/rainbow handle that looks horrible and totally out of place. I want to paint over this in a matching shade for the roof. Thanks!
So cute!! I love those polka dots 🙂
xoxoxo
Thank you Jen!
Have an awesome day my friend!
Well those turned out cute.

I love the colours you chose for your candy stands. You’ve inspired me to get handy with some paint soon! 🙂
Desiree these are soooo cute!! I love the polkadots!!
these turned out so great, made me run to my paint cabinet and break out the enamels. i began with a jar for practice, and it is so translucent. did you start with white dishes for it to be so opaque? any tips?
Theresa,
The dishes were colored already all I did was the polka dots. I noticed that the lighter tones of enamels were more translucent. I had to do the white polka dots a few times. I will recommend using white or colored surfaces for the enamels and glass for the stains. They sell also regular enamel that is a lot more flat and less translucent.
I hope this helps!
Wish I had seen this last week! I used regular gloss paint, and it did not survive the dishwasher. I’ll be reading this in more detail as soon as I’m ready to try again! I hope you’ll link this up today (or anytime this weekend) at One Creative Weekend on OneCreativeMommy.com. (Following you on Facebook and Google+.
I cannot wait to try and made a bunch of these!
They are fun!
Desiree, I love how these turned out, it’s amazing what a little paint can do. They are beautiful! You’ve got me inspired:-)
oooh! I love them! I am working with the stain, and love it. Can’t wait to use all of the rest of the paints!
