Back to school days are almost here and I thought it would be fun to bring back one of my favorite teacher appreciation gifts! All of the teachers at our school are required to wear their identification badges every day. Years ago I starting to make badge holders for my kid’s teachers and they have always loved them. Today I’m sharing a quick tutorial of how to make your own.
Trust me, teachers will appreciate more of these!
MATERIALS
Long strips of fabric scraps – You can also use ribbon.
A little bit over a yard of lanyard – You can find it over at your local fabric store.
Glue Gun
Scissors
Key Holder
Fray Block is optional

TIP: You can even use an old badge holder and just give it a makeover!
TUTORIAL
1
First I made my fabric flowers. You can find a tutorial of how to make them HERE. I used hot glue while making the flowers to hold the fabric together.
2
Cut two thin strips of fabric, the width will depend on the size of the lanyard you’ll use. Make sure to cut them one inch longer than the length of the lanyard. I always like to iron my fabric as I go, I found it easier to work with it that way. You can use ribbon instead of fabric if you like.
After cutting the pieces it was time to attach the fabric strips to the lanyard.

Wear the lanyard around your neck in front of a mirror and choose where to place the flowers.
Hot glue them in place.
{Did you know that there is hot glue for fabric?
Also choose where to place the pen packet.
Put the fabric on top of the pen to measure how much you will need.

Cut the fabric, iron it, and sew it in place.
{You kind of have to pleat the bottom of the pocket since the fabric will not sit flat}

You are almost done!
Sew the ends of the lanyard together and make the loop where the key ring is going to be.

Here is how it looks while hanging…
Because my sweet girl is twelve I had to tuck part of the lanyard behind her so it wouldn’t hang too low.
The embellishments actually hang lower on an adult.
That’s it!
