DIY Stamped Necklaces Tutorial. These washer necklaces are perfect for gifts and easy to customized!
I have the blessing to be part of a great organization inside of the church I belong to; called Young Women.
The theme for the girls {age 12 to 17} this year is “believe”. I’ve been thinking a lot during the last six months about such a simple word and what it means to me. However it was during this weekend that I found myself thinking more deeply about it while working on these little necklaces that I was making for our girls.
So please forgive me if you came visiting looking for a craft or just a cool tutorial because I am afraid that today you are also going to be getting a piece of my heart.
Materials
These are the tools I used to make the necklaces:
1/8″ Steel Stamping Set – Find it HERE
Your choice size washers.
Hammer {the poor thing has seen better days}
Sharpie and a cleaning rag.
Sharpie and a cleaning rag.
Chain and Embellishments – I found both of mine at WalMart.
The first thing I did was stamp the washers. For this I used the 1/8″ steel stamps and a hammer. I learned that it works better if you do it on a solid surface like concrete. Just hammer the stamps pretty hard three o four times to engrave the letters on the washer. Watch OUT for your fingers!
After I had stamped the washers they looked like this.
Next step was give them some character. All I used to do this was a Sharpie.
And after I just cleaned the excess with a damp cloth.
This is how they looked at this point.
Last thing was to assemble the necklace. Love them!
I have learned during my life that unfortunately there is not a tutorial for believing.
There are not specific tools, materials or steps that make us believe.
However there is a magic in doing so, when we believe in ourselves, in others, in a better world in a Father above.
When we believe in love, friendship and tender mercies, when we believe in people, in human kindness, in doing good, when we believe in the better part, something happens:
As these stamps engraved the letters in these washers hope, joy, faith and true happiness gets engraved in our hearts.
When we believe the impossible cease to exist and the world around us becomes a better one, not because it has change but because we have.
I want my girls to know that I BELIEVE!

I didn’t see any information about baking the washers. But in the intro, it mentioned baking them. Could you tell me if I missed something?
You don’t bake them.
What a lovely idea! I will be featuring it on my blog (homemakinghearts.com) tomorrow and sending folks your way for instructions! You have a wonderful blog site; keep up the good work!

I purchased some of the charms at Walmart, but they no longer carry them. Can you tell me where you purchased yours and what you call them as I can look on ebay but don’t know the name of them. Any help?
What size washers did you use? I love these and they would be great for our girls at church too. Thank you for the wonderful tutorial.

Thank you so much Lola for stopping by and taking the time to say hi… Wishing you a wonderful New Year!
What a gorgeous idea! I love it! Now I need to find myself some steel stamps… 🙂 Lisa
Michaels and Joann’s has them 🙂
I know you said in your post you found the charms at Walmart, but I can’t find them. I’m having a hard time finding beads/charms that I can make for 60 women. Thanks so much for the idea and your beautiful words!
Maybe try Michaels… you may find something similar.
Hi! I completely love this project idea! My sons liked it as well and we want to make these as Christmas gift for all our Aunts and Grandmas. I bought the chains and beads yesterday and went shopping for the washers today but came home empty handed (boy, there sure are a lot of different washers out there!). Did you use stainless steel washers, or another kind like nickle or ___? The stainless steel ones looked nice and shiny like the ones you have pictured above but I was concerned that the metal may be too hard for the stamp?
Also do you recall what sizes you used? I thought he 1/2 and 3/8 looked like they might work together…
Sorry for so many questions! We have a very tight Christmas budget and I am nervous about doing it all correctly the first time. (I would hate to ruin the stamp set.)
Thank you!
Kim, go with the softer metal, if you want them really shiny get clear nail polish to burnish them when you are done. The size depends of the look you want, any size you like will work… Have fun!
I am so happy I stumbled upon this online today….. it is beautiful in creation and words. I can’t wait to share this with my friends and family and plan an evening together to make them.
Love it! Thank you so much for stopping by!
