DIY Stamped Necklaces Tutorial. These washer necklaces are perfect for gifts and easy to customized!
I have the blessing to be part of a great organization inside of the church I belong to; called Young Women.
The theme for the girls {age 12 to 17} this year is “believe”. I’ve been thinking a lot during the last six months about such a simple word and what it means to me. However it was during this weekend that I found myself thinking more deeply about it while working on these little necklaces that I was making for our girls.
So please forgive me if you came visiting looking for a craft or just a cool tutorial because I am afraid that today you are also going to be getting a piece of my heart.
Materials

These are the tools I used to make the necklaces:
1/8″ Steel Stamping Set – Find it HERE
Your choice size washers.
Hammer {the poor thing has seen better days}
Sharpie and a cleaning rag.
Sharpie and a cleaning rag.
Chain and Embellishments – I found both of mine at WalMart.
The first thing I did was stamp the washers. For this I used the 1/8″ steel stamps and a hammer. I learned that it works better if you do it on a solid surface like concrete. Just hammer the stamps pretty hard three o four times to engrave the letters on the washer. Watch OUT for your fingers!
After I had stamped the washers they looked like this.
Next step was give them some character. All I used to do this was a Sharpie.
And after I just cleaned the excess with a damp cloth.
This is how they looked at this point.
Last thing was to assemble the necklace. Love them!
I have learned during my life that unfortunately there is not a tutorial for believing.
There are not specific tools, materials or steps that make us believe.
However there is a magic in doing so, when we believe in ourselves, in others, in a better world in a Father above.
When we believe in love, friendship and tender mercies, when we believe in people, in human kindness, in doing good, when we believe in the better part, something happens:
As these stamps engraved the letters in these washers hope, joy, faith and true happiness gets engraved in our hearts.
When we believe the impossible cease to exist and the world around us becomes a better one, not because it has change but because we have.
I want my girls to know that I BELIEVE!

Wonderful idea and great job. I’m sure your girls will love these.
What size “washers” did you use? Can’t seem to find two that work together like yours do.
Do you know where I could find a small “steel stamp” set?
Lauren, you can find them on line. Search and a bunch of places will come up!
Harbor Freight has them and puts them on sale often.
I found mine at Hobby Lobby $11.99 and used their 40% off coupon which brought it down almost 1/2! I did them for our Relay For Life American Cancer event and they turned out great!
How long did you bake them for and at what temp.?
I didn’t bake them.
Thank you for sharing. I was looking for some great ideas for lap beads for Relay for life. This is going to be a hit!!!
Yay!
Thanks for posting this! I have been looking for an idea of something to make for my bridesmaids for my up coming wedding and this perfect! It’s something that can be personalized really easily and can be worn no matter the situation or occasion! THANK YOU!
How cute! Thank you so much for stopping by and taking the time to leave me a comment 🙂

These are BEAUTIFUL! What an inspirational necklace. What brand steel stamps did you use? Can I assume baking the washers makes the Sharpie ink permanent?
Thank you!!!
Great idea! Thanks for sharing your how-to! Adapted it to give to my friend using our school name and graduation year. She loved it! Great momento of our shared time together.
What a cute idea!
I think you are a wonderful teacher for those young ladies you work with. Thanks for such inspiring thoughts. Loved the neck chains. I will be attempting this for the daughter and young ladies in my life ,[ nieces, grand-daughters, friends, co-workers.] with your permission and blessing. All my thanks and blessings to you and yours.
Hello Desiree,
Thank you so much for this fantastic inspiration, i am thinking about making these as gifts to those who attend our breast cancer awareness fundraiser. But we need to be inexpensive, so I was wondering if you recall, by chance just about how much spent on these? I need around 60, i know you did a lot less, but do you recall the ballpark figure on what it cost to create, just one, for example? To make things even a little harder, I live outside of the US right now and dont have access to good hardware stores or walmart :(. so i have to be creative how i get these parts, even if i have to hoard them back to the country after a visit home 🙂 Any info you recall would be greatly helpful! Thank you for your time!
