EMBRACING CHANGE

CHANGE comes to us all; what makes it different is the way we perceive it. For some, change stands as an overwhelming high mountain that seems impossible to climb, but what would happen if change was not such a thing, but a side road, a path leading to a place full of opportunities to grow? Change, like anything else, can be explored with positive curiosity.

My experience is that when I open my heart to accepting a new phase of my life, I see change as an opportunity to walk into a new world of possibilities. Now, please, don’t take my words as a claim that the journey is full of flowers and butterflies. I find change to be a path that perhaps other people have also walked before, rocky in some spots, with ups and downs along the way, but also fascinating and challenging enough to show me that I am capable of being resilient and making each day count.

In the last seven years, I have experienced more challenges than during all the other previous years combined. Some of the experiences I have lived were so dramatic and traumatic that at times I could not see how it could be possible to be or feel “normal” again. Until one day, a thought, like a cool breeze in a stifling day or a warm breeze in a freezing one, touched my intellect – “Is it possible that the meaning of change had nothing to do with ‘normality’?

That was the beginning of acceptance. I could not aim for my previous life. Change was inviting me to write a new book, not a new chapter or a sequel to the previous one. Change was giving me the chance to write a new story where self-integrity and acceptance of the woman I am now could be doable.

Friend, if you are in the midst of confusion and feeling lost on the journey of change, please keep walking. Don’t dwell on the life and habits of normality, but open your entire being to accept the woman you are today, in this very moment. Love her, take care of her, listen to her needs. Be gentle, forgiving, and please don’t give up. Keep walking the path of change.

In the words of my brother Pedro – “My sister, allow life to surprise you!”

Much love,
Another woman,

Desirée
