Ok!
I am not sure how many of you have read today my Blogger to WordPress post but let me share with you one of the comments I received…
” I see a lot of comments from people who have their own blogs, but I’m curious what the thoughts is for just the readers. Many of my favorite blogs have switched, too, and I hate to say it, but it’s not as “reader friendly” as the old formats and it makes me a bit sad. I liked being able to click once to my favorite blogs and scrolling. Now You have to keep clicking back and forth and for someone like me who doesn’t have the extremely fast internet, it’s not as instant as I would like because it has more to load. Not that you’re losing a reader, I still check in, just not as often and if the photo and caption doesn’t “get” me I don’t bother to stay (Not meaning you have an issue with yours, just for those thinking to switch to think about). So when the switch to this is made, someone really needs to make sure they are focusing on those parts. Kind of like a magazine, I don’t bother to pick it up and look through it unless it has some great “catcher” pieces on the front and really I could be missing some good stuff. Just thought I’d weigh in as a reader only! Please don’t take this personally, cuz I think you’re great, just constructive thoughts from the other side! Good luck!”
I love your comments and I learn from them and I have to admit this one got me thinking…
So what do you like better the magazine layout… {where you just see just the thumbnails of each post as the home page is now}
or the classic blog layout { where you see the entire post at once and you get to scroll down to the next one }?
Let me know!
Love this post. The blogs I have deleted from bloglovin (obviously I read and love yours) are the ones where I have to wait for individual photos to load, or where there is a tutorial and I have to click through 3 pages to get the instructions. I won’t name names, but a huge blog with great content drives me crazy and I bypass it totally now: it has a grid layout and you must click on the photos and wait for them to load full size. Don’t have the time to do this for 10-25 photos! So thank you for this post.
Oh My Gosh! So, this afternoon when I decided to check into some of my favorite blogs, I came to yours and noticed I could scroll through the last post. I was SOOO excited that I didn’t have to go somewhere else. I figured it may be a new layout that I would then have to finish reading it on a different page. I was even MORE excited when I saw the next blog post right under it! Like I said in my earlier comment, I don’t check into the blogs with that layout as much as I do the ones I can scroll through most of the stuff…just because of time, etc. So, I had no idea you changed the format. I figured it was a fluke today until I saw your post about switching it. Number 1…I’m so excited you did, because I love your blog and this makes it easier for some of us to read quickly, but still read. Number 2…I kind of feel bad. I hope you are still happy with your new layout. I hope you don’t think I was complaining, no one has every asked readers opinions before so I thought I would give another side. I know you can’t please everyone but I always feel it’s nice to have all sides to think on. Once again…I LOVE your blog!! Keep it up!
Also, I don’t like to “subscribe” to many blogs because I get too much email as it is. I don’t yet know if there is a way to “follow” along easily (like in my blogger dashboard) for wordpress. Maybe there is a way…I just haven’t dug deep enough to figure it out yet….and probably won’t.
Oh I like the blogger format MUCH better and it is the main thing that would keep me from switching myself. A lot of times the wordpress format keeps me from reading blogs. My internet connection is also slow, so there’s no way I am clicking through all of those headlines and then clicking back to read past posts. And there are many times when I get behind in reading so I want to go back and read by scrolling. Also, consider the photographs are a BIG draw for most people. If they can’t see a lot of the photos right off the bat, then they probably won’t be as likely to click.
I completely agree with the comment that was made…I am not a fan of the magazine layout either. It’s much easier to scroll down. I do love your blog & am also glad you “switched” back!
Sally
I totally agree – not a fan of the magazine layout at all. It just looks jumbled and cluttered. I see that you switched back – yay!
