Some people calls it Pico de Gallo. Some other people call it Fresh Salsa. I call it DELICIOUS! Salsa is one of those foods that you have to try and eat fresh. No store brand can compete with the taste that a fresh tomato, onion, pepper, cilantro, jalapeño, and lemon gives to the real deal. Our kids love to eat it with our chicken enchiladas and tacos… My teens even make this salsa for a snack!
My favorite part about this recipe is that it is 100% natural and 100% delicious! You should know that I’m one of those people that loves donuts, cookies, and cake WAY TOO MUCH… Let’s just say I’m not a curvy girl just because. Every time I have a chance to squish something that is healthy and actually delicious as part of my diet I go for it. When I eat this salsa I can almost hear my belly thanking me for all the goodness found in each bite. You are going to love it!
Before I share the recipe let me also share with you a little something that happened on my Facebook page HERE the other day. I posted there the picture below as an invitation for our Facebook followers and friends to share their voices and hopefully a few of their memories with me. Call me old fashion or a hopeless romantic but I am one of those people that still get nostalgic and feels warm inside when I make the same recipes that my grandma and mom passed down to me. The familiar smell and taste are simply magical. It takes me back to my childhood, to the many times I helped my mama cook, to the unforgettable lazy summers when I visited the home of my “abuela” and “abuelo”. It takes me back to my roots, to that part of me that will forever be home.
After reading near 200 comments I was touched to see that I’m not the only one that feels this way. Take a look and read the comments of so many of our wonderful readers and you won’t be able to stop smiling. So many wonderful thoughts and memories shared by so many different people inspired by family recipes!
Even a simple recipe like this one that I’m sharing today can become the unforgettable “salsa” that my kids will remember tomorrow! How cool is that?!
- ½ cup chopped tomato
- ½ cup chopped green pepper
- ¾ cup chopped white onion
- 1 to 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro - Depending on your taste
- ¼ to ½ teaspoon shredded jalapeño - Depending on your taste
- Juice of 1 medium-size lemon

- Chop the vegetables into small pieces and put them in a medium-sized bowl.
- Chop the cilantro. Add it to the bowl.
- Use a cheese grater to shred the jalapeño. Add it to the bowl.
- Cut the lemon in half and squish the lemon juice on top of the chopped vegetables. Use a spoon to stir all the veggies together.

Yummy, yummy! You really should try it with lime juice instead of lemon, though. Your photos are gorgeous.
Have a nice weekend.
