Today I am going to share with you a quick cleaning tip that is going to change your life. How to Clean a Porcelain Sink is not just easy but super quick! Let me show you!
Now, as part of our kitchen makeover we contemplated the idea of replacing our old porcelain sink.
We love our sink. It is huge, it has a lot of character but after having our home rented out for two years
we found it stained BADLY. Sick!
I tried different ways to clean it and I came up with one that brought it back to pure white again.
If your sink is not as bad as mine you may be able to clean it using just one product: Bar Keepers Friend.
You can find it HERE.
If your sink looks really bad and has very messy stains this additional steps will take care of it!
It took me three steps and just a few minutes to complete the process.
{ Come on! Pretend you are excited!}
1
The first thing you want to do is to wash it with dish soup or dishwasher detergent using a sponge and warm water.
When we moved into our house as you could see the sink was in pretty bad shape so dishwasher detergent worked better for me.
After you are done, rinse it thoroughly.
This is how our sink looked after this step.
A lot better… but far from perfect.
2
Spray bleach or a bleach product all over the sink.
Let the bleach sit for a few minutes while you try to wash off the little bit of bleach that went on your shirt.
Darn it!
I hate when that happens.
Gently give a general scrub all over and rinse thoroughly again.
After this step the yellowish color was gone but the black stains were still there.
3
Apply a small amount of Bar Keepers Friend directly on the areas where you see stains.
I like to scrub those areas in a circular motion…
I don’t know what this product has but you’ll see the stains disappear before your eyes.

Shut The Front Door!
One more!
There you have it… a perfectly clean porcelain sink!
Amazing! Huh!

Thank you so much for years I have tried everything to make our tub shine and nothing did the trick like your methods and products. Bar Keepers Friend made our porcelain like new.
Again thanks so much. Art
Yay! I’m so glad it worked!
Where would I find “Bar Keepers Friend”?
There is a link on the post! You can also find it at Wal-Mart.
At Walmart or local hardware store. I found it in both places but I personally buy mine on Amazon. It’s more for your buck and its relatively inexpensive.
Thank you for the cleaning plan for Porcelain Sinks. I cleaned my sink using your steps and it has NEVER looked this good!!!!
Yay! Happy to hear!!!
Just used your 3 step cleaning on my sink and wow looks new! Thank you!!
Yay! You are very welcome!
This product might be great for porcelain sinks but I will tell you it is FABULOUS for stainless steel. Rinse entire sink down with water, shake container vigorously and apply and give a general application all over. Rinse thoroughly and then apply a very light coat of mineral oil to entire sink. I had a stainless steel sink installed three years ago and this product was the manufacturers recommendation of product to use. The mineral oil application came from years of working Ina hospital kitchen. Each night before we left, ALL sinks were cleaned and given thorough wipe with mineral oil. A little coating, not thick.
Thank you so much for the tip!
I have to try that! Where do you find the mineral oil?
I’ve been using Barkeeper’s Friend for years, and love your addition. Will be following your posts.
i just want to say thanks for all of the information that you gave. The more I read the more I wanted to read. I learn so much in such a short time. Once again thanks.
Awesome…was wondering if i can buy this product somewhere else, like a Walmart or Target? Thanks.
great idea, been bleaching my very old acrylic sink overnight with bleach soaked paper towels, then cleaning as best as possible. It’s really scratched up & the finish is gone on the bottom. So I have been polishing it with car polish to seal it, makes it a bit longer between bleachings. Car polish is also great for any surface you want to seal abit, fridge, stove, glass shower doors, not the tub, found out the hard way! !! Thanks again for barkeepers friend idea.
My sister told me about this a few years ago, I’ve used it for my sink and my shower. I have a fiberglass shower, and those suckers NEVER come clean. In my shower I make a paste with either The Works cleaner or Scrubbing Bubbles. First I spray the cleaner all over the shower/tub and then sprinkle My Bar keepers friends (I use the powder) and let it sit for a few mins. then use a scrubby to wipe away all the grim. It works great! Another plus, it shines your chrome too (no scratches)!
Emily, THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing your cleaning tip!
