Hey there!!!
I am Summer and I blog over at Made By Munchie’s Mama.
I am really, really excited to be guest posting today!
Talk about makin’ it big time.  Desiree is majorly big time status.

My 2 year old is constantly climbing on our nice end tables {well, they were nice before dogs and kids}, so today I am going to show you how I turned an $8 Ikea side table into this toddler activity table.  Hours of budget friendly fun for everyone!

And away we go!!!

Supplies: $8 Ikea side table and Expressions Indoor Vinyl
{I used indoor so that I could easily remove it and add new activities as my sons grow}

I used the Silhouette Studio to design the table decals.  I measured the actual table and then set the page measurements accordingly.  The Cameo only cuts 12 inches wide and the table is 21 inches wide so I after I got the colors and sizes just how I wanted them, I copied and pasted all the decals on a page for each color.  Here is what that looked like:

TIP:  You will notice that there are red lines outlining each of the decals.
I just made a square or circle around each item.  This will help make weeding the unwanted vinyl much easier!

 When you finish cutting, weeding, applying transfer tape and cutting each decal out they will look like this.
Time to assemble!

I applied the black dividing lines so I could get the individual sections spaced evenly,
then I laid out the rest of the decals and just started applying.

TIP: If you get air bubbles under your vinyl, take a straight pin and poke a little hole then use your squeegee to work the air out…you won’t even see the little pin hole and your air bubbles will magically be gone!  Wha la!

*note: I used the Expressions Dry Erase Vinyl under the Tic-Tac-Toe grid so we could play over and over again.

There you have it friends, easy as pie or cake or ice cream.
Dang, now I need a midnight snack!
No little Mr.’s running around your house?
How about a princess themed table for your little Miss?!  For just $8 the possibilities are endless!

Sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

For the longest time I have wanted to paint our kitchen white and it finally happened.

Today I am giving  you my friends a tour of the room where life happens.

Here is our new old kitchen…

It looks different… doesn’t it?

I love how bright it is!

This next picture was taken around 5:30 pm… my favorite new hour of the day!

The sunshine comes right through the window and it makes me  so happy!

My favorite part of the kitchen has to be the white cabinets.

I took this picture even before we were done adding the handles to all of the doors and I could not believe what those bright clean cabinets had done for the kitchen already.

I wanted to keep the space really neutral since I love to decorate for every season and holiday.

Changing accessories will be really easy to do with a neutral background.

Bring on the color!

With Spring here and Summer knocking on the door in just a few months, color was a must.

I love the old country vintage style as much as I love  the modern retro feel so I mixed both.

Yes you can do that!

I chose red, yellow and green around the kitchen with little accents popping here and there all over the place.

One of my favorites displays of color is the little accent cabinet that sits right on top of our fridge…

You can see the TUTORIAL of it  here.

The Vinyl.

Another element found and used around my kitchen was vinyl.

I used vinyl and vinyl stencils in four  different projects:

 The number mugs, the salt and pepper shakers, the vinyl chalkboard and the “Menu” Sign on the bridge.

 { You can find some of these items over at my shop}

My favorite of all four vinyl projects has to be the mugs.

I love the fact that they are washable… we use them to eat soup all the time.

You can see how to make your own stenciled washable dishes HERE.

The Sweet Little Things!

I always have wanted to have a herb little garden, however the summers down here are extremely hot and most herbs don’t do well in such weather.

Last week I took my little ones to our beautiful local nursery and I learned that if they are by a window they do really well indoors.

So I made my little garden and let me tell you that mint smells so darn good!

Other sweet little thing was the Washi Tape Window Treatmet.

I shared the TUTORIAL just a few days ago.

This was super easy to make and I love how bright the natural light comes through it!

The last sweet little thing I am going to share is the Old Window Kitchen Wire Frame.

What a  simple way to display pictures, notes and… sweet little things.

{ Check out the tutorial here }

The Handyman Work!

A great simple way to bring texture and dimension to your wall is by using bead board.

We used the beadboard around the island  and also as  a backsplash.

So clean!

Another “home improvement” project that we did was changing the faucet.

…and what an amazing transformation cleaning  the porcelain sink made.

You can see the tutorial of how TO CLEAN YOUR own PORCELAIN SINK here.

Can you believe it?

However what started the kitchen makeover fever were the counter-tops.

If you have never seen the before pictures I am warning you they were bad!

I can’t thank Giani Granite enough for making such an EXTRAORDINARY product.

I still can’t believe that a “paint” could make such a transformation.

So there you have it… from old to new.

From dark to bright…

I hope you like our kitchen as much as we do!

Happy Thursday My Friends!

Desirée.

I am sharing my kitchen over at these parties!

Visit with me!

OK… so tomorrow is the BIG day when I get to reveal my total kitchen makeover!

I can’t believe that it took me over three weeks to take care of this space but  I can tell you this much…

we are loving it!

Today I am sharing with you what I call the forgotten cabinet.

I am talking about the one found on top of the fridge.

 The one that many of us don’t see because BOXES OF CEREAL are covering it.

I am talking about this poor sad cabinet.

{ By the way this is how the kitchen used to look after the counter-tops makeover}

Well, I HATE things on top of the fridge.

Seriously, I have a problem with it.

So I decided to give the forgotten cabinet some love.

Make it perhaps a small focal point, a shelf more than a cabinet.

This is what I did…

1

My sweet hubby took the cabinet out of the wall for me.

Then the first thing I did was remove the doors.

2

Because the inside of it has that laminate particle wood I wasn’t comfortable using paint to make it white.

Instead I used white vinyl. I cut pieces as big as each side of the interior of the cabinet and carefully placed the vinyl.

It turned out perfect!

{ I am pretty sure you can find white adhesive vinyl in the kitchen areas at your convenient stores}

3

The next step was to cover the back of it with some bead-board.

Instead of cutting a piece from a huge board I used the type Home Depot sales in slats, the kind that you snap together.

I recommend doing this for small projects like this one and use a radial saw to cut them.

4

After this step I was ready to have some fun.

We hung it back up, secured the boards to the back with a nail gun, { you can use liquid nails if you don’t have a nail gun} and painted the entire piece white.

To dress up the shelf I used the color accents of our new old kitchen: yellow, green and red.

I decorated it with items that belong to the kitchen.

Things like cook books.

This is a great way to store your books and  make them a part of the decor.

Because the kitchen is white any color is welcome…

Oh, I am a HAPPY girl!

I thought you may wonder where I found some of my accessories.

The bowls came from Tai Pan for under $4 each.

I love retro and vintage so I thought this new display shelf would be a perfect place to showcase some of my little treasures…

{ I found the red jars at the Family Dollar Store for  $1 }

When you are decorating, incorporate those things you have already…

 even the most simple items can make such a difference.

So there you have it… this little cabinet is not forgotten or ordinary anymore!

So FUN!
