This homemade Play Dough Recipe is super soft and smells delicious!
That’s right we are sharing today my favorite homemade Kool-Aid Play Dough Recipe today!
How fun is this?
This is an awesome and easy recipe.
Your kids will love it and it is a perfect activity for the weekends and school breaks.
The colors come from the different Kool-Aid flavors and the playdough smells yummy.
Here is the recipe!
- 1 Cup Flour
- ¼ Cup Salt
- 1 Packet Kool-Aid
- ⅔ Cup Water *You will end up using between ½ and ⅔ cup.
- 1 Tb. Oil
- Mix the flour, the salt, and the Kool-Aid together.
- Boil the water.
- Add the oil to the water.
- Pour some of the water into the dry ingredients and mix with a spoon. Keep adding water and work the dough until the color is uniform and feels like playdough.
I thought it would be fun to put the playdough inside of Easter Eggs for Easter.
If you want to do this make sure to first add tape to the inside of the eggs.
The eggs come with small holes and you want to cover them so they become air tight,
this way the play dough doesn’t dry.
I found these clear small 2 oz. containers in the paper plate aisle at Wal-Mart.
They came in a bag of 50 cups with lids.
I ended up using 42 of them… I know, I made 7 batches of playdough, one for each Kool-Aid color.
If you decide to use these small mini cups divide the playdough in 6 equal balls.
Each batch should give you enough playdough to fill six containers of one color.
Give this Kool-Aid playdough recipe a try with your little kiddos.
Mine loved to help me mix the dough.
A fun thing about it is that you won’t know what color it is going to turn out until the water is added.
The little ones get so excited trying to guess what color the playdough is going to be.
It is so pretty and so much fun to make!
I hope you give it a try!
Here is another fun project that my kids loved.

Don’t you think this playdough will make adorable Easter Basket stuffers?
We do!
So we made a little free printable toppers that you can use to decorate the small playdough cups
or use them as cupcake toppers for Easter. Click here to print them!
Anyways, I better go. Make sure you have a wonderful day!

I am sharing our Kool-Aid Playdough over at these awesome link parties.
We love doing this, I’m going to try adding the koolaid to water tip! We also like to make sculptures/cookie cutter letters/shapes and leave them out to dry… They harden up really well! And we’ve had the dough last weeks without mold (it either gets left out or turned into a sculpture within a few days)
How fun Amanda… This is my favorite recipe dough. Smells so good!
Such fun! I wanted this job to go faster, as I made many batches as gifts to my preschool class.
I add the Koolaid to the water and then add oil.
It will infuse the color into the mixture faster!
🙂
Great tip!
How long will this last in the containers before it starts to mold?
I just love the colors you’ve achieved for the playdough! It looks so fresh! I think I have to focus more on colors when I make my new playdough batch 🙂
Does the play doh stain surfaces? I remember as a kid we’d get red lips and faces from drinking Kool Aid. I know my daughter would be using it at the table but I want to avoid any stains as best as possible. Thanks!
It doesn’t stain and it smells wonderful!
This is such a great idea! I must give it a try.
This was great! I did find that I needed a tiny bit more flour though to get rid of the stickiness. I just used my fingers to sprinkle some flour on the dough ball as I mixed to together.
Id love to make this! my daughter loves playdough so much! Is it sticky on hands like melted sugar? Thanks
Does the Play-Doh need to be refrigerated?
I heard it lasts longer that way.
I love this recipe! I was just wondering if the playdough is able to be molded to a shape & stay like regular playdough. I am throwing a baby shower and would love to play the game where everyone makes a baby out of playdough. If this is sturdy enough, it would be perfect and cost effective.
It does. It feels so soft in your hands but it can be shaped like regular play dough. Smells great too!
