DIY Home Decor Ideas are my favorite thing to share. Today I’m showing you how to make Terracotta Pots look chic, modern, and for sure beautiful without losing their natural rustic look. I made two different sets of pots, the silver ones for our bathroom and the gold ones for our entryway. I love how they turned out… Make sure to come back next week to take a tour of both spaces. I can’t wait for you guys to see them!

TUTORIAL

ONE

If your pots are new you are ready to paint. If they are used you want to wash them well before you paint them.

Chalk paint is really forgiving and sticks really well to pretty much any surface. Don’t worry about doing a perfect job, you want to achieve a rustic look so it’s OK if some of the original surface shows here and there. You can even use sandpaper to antique the pots to your liking.

TWO

Now your pots should be dry and ready to apply the gold leaf.

Apply a thin coat of gilding adhesive to the surface of the pot. Allow the adhesive to air dry until the surface feels tacky.

TIP : To create a rustic look apply the glue in an abstract way. Picture how you want the gold leaf to look as a finished project. The only spots where the gold or silver leaf will show is where the glue was applied.

THREE

Carefully lay the gilding sheet on the prepared surface. Keep the wax backing sheet towards you. Press and smooth gilding sheet to the surface, rubbing gently. Repeat and continue adding gilding sheets until the entire surface area is covered!

FOUR

Using a natural bristle brush, brush over the gold leaf to remove the excess gilding.

I love this part!
